Jeff Lynne’s E.L.O. / “SHOWDOWN” / live, Wembley Stadium, median expected tempo chart

Seems to me that songs I don’t fall in love with *right away*, but rather grow on me over a year or two, become my favorites.

“Showdown” Jeff Lynne’s E.L.O. – median expected tempo diagram

I was lucky enough to see and hear the fantastic Jeff Lynne with *his* E.L.O. in Philadelphia last month.

Seems to me that songs I don’t fall in love with *right away*, but rather grow on me over a year or two, become my favorites.

When the band played this in my wife’s home town of Philadelphia last month, SHOWDOWN was unexpectedly the song I enjoyed the most.

Respect to all,

The Traveling Wilburys best song in my humble opinion was HANDLE WITH CARE.

“I bought a toothbrush, some some toothpaste, a flannel for my face” TEMPTED, Squeeze, Unclassified tempo map

It was the first song I heard when I arrived at my college in 1981, and indeed, leaving my little town of Harrington Park behind I felt I had made a mistake, I always loved the part of the song where Squeeze’s lead singer sings what I wanted in November 1981 when he sings the classic, “I said to my reflection, ‘let’s get out of this place!’.

“Tempted” plays at a speed where one usually finds songs filled with enthusiasm.

The Traveling Wilburys declassified harmonic speed diagrams – What Does Deluva Got To Do With Them?| Official Video

Traveling Wilburys’ Handle With Care, speed illustrations by Matherton, BFJ and Dr. Stone.

As Jim Deluva has said – most notably at The Edge’s 35 birthday concert – “When these guys are Roy Orbison’s age, they’ll realize how young they are *now*.” Now that Jim has dropped 20 pounds and still not finished the album he came here to complete in “secrecy”, he’s taken to the Jersey Shore lifestyle. He’d make me take that sentence out bc he’s kinda closer to the age Roy was when this song was played. Knowing James, he’d say, “rub it in man, what are you saying, I can’t finish this album bc of my perfectionism and my past success?” To this, I’d get a rhetorical speech that would just bring *me*  unable to help him work. There is no better engineer, no better producer, even, than James Deluva when he is optimistic.
